The David and Lucile Packard Foundation is a private foundation that has worked for more than 45 years with partners around the world to improve the lives of children, families, and communities—and to restore and protect our planet. The Foundation supports leaders and institutions working to achieve a biologically rich, sustainable world where all families can plan for their children and all children reach their potential.
The David and Lucile Packard Foundation has supported AHI’s programming since 2000 and current funding is directed at enabling sustainable access to sexual and reproductive health information and services to young people especially married adolescent girls in Borno and Adamawa states of Nigeria by working with partner institutions to:
- Provide opportunities for training the school teachers to effectively implement the National Family Live and HIV Education curriculum in junior secondary schools.
- Establish youth friendly services within public health care facilities delivering sexual and reproductive health information, counseling and contraceptives services to young people especially married adolescents
- Reach youths including married adolescents reached with sexual and reproductive health information, counseling and contraceptive services through activities implemented.
- Train and support female role models -“Women Innovators”- to advocate and mobilize support for the reintegration of married adolescent girls into schools.
- Enhance the capacity of Federal and State Ministry of Education officials to develop programming strategies which meet the education and reproductive health needs of married adolescents girls.
- Facilitate and support the operationalization of model married adolescent-friendly schools to increase the enrolment of married adolescent girls
