Proposal Writing Course For NGOs

The capacity to write good proposals has become indispensable for non- governmental organizations and individuals who have to convince potential supporters to fund their social development projects. To this end, Action Health Incorporated (AHI) from March 23- 27, 2009 conducted a Proposal Writing Course for representatives of Nigerian NGOs and CBOs.

The capacity building programme which took place at the AHI Training Hall aimed at providing participants the opportunity to understand the key components of a fundable proposal as well as to improve their knowledge and skills in writing good proposals.

The course was facilitated by resource persons who have built a career on writing successful proposals to mobilize resources for social development projects. Participants were provided step-by-step hands- on guidance on how to write winning proposals.

Formal lectures, brainstorming, individual and small group exercises, individual material development and class presentations were incorporated into the programme to facilitate learning and skills building. At the end of the course, participants were able to develop the outline of a fundable project proposal; generate a list of potential funders and funding sources that match their project/organizational mandates and write a proposal in line with their area of interest while matching the project’s goal with the potential funder’s mandate.

12 participants drawn from various NGOs across the country took part in the programme.
