Outreaches To Secondary Schools

As part of AHI’s Information, Communication and Education and Health Services Units’ plan to continually increase young people’s access to sexual and reproductive health information and services, the team conducted outreaches to various secondary schools in Somolu, Kosofe and Mainland Local Government Areas in Lagos State.

The outreaches were undertaken on the assembly grounds in both junior and senior secondary schools. The activity with the students included introduction of the organization’s activities and facilities, a brief talk on relevant SRH topics such as Sexually Transmitted Infections, self-esteem, assertiveness and negotiation skills, personal and menstrual hygiene and the introduction of various interesting energizers such as the ‘love clap’, ‘atama clap’, and ‘spelling coconut with the body’.

In addition to the health talk, the AHI Growing Up Newsletter and some other educational materials were distributed to students on the assembly. The students were encouraged to make contributions to the Growing up magazine and develop their writing skills. Many of the young people asked questions and showed interest in the organizations activities.
