The purpose of this activity was to create awareness about Action Health’s Programmes and to inform and invite the young people for AHI’s activities. The topic discussed for the day was ’Change the World’. The discussion was facilitated by Ms. Oladimeji and Timilehin Amodu.

Highlights of the discussion included an overview of who youths are, challenges young people face and the sexual and reproductive health of young people. Special emphasis was laid on adolescent as the agents of change and various ways young people can contribute to their community. The facilitator also discussed about ways young people can effect change in their worlds. The discussion was also mindful of the fact that young people experience numerous challenges and engage in several risky behaviors that put them at risk. Some of the challenges were stated by the young people and the reasons young people do what they do. The facilitator explained that young people need factual information to address these challenges and services to meet their needs. She mentioned services such as counseling, health education and laboratory tests to detect infections such as sexually transmitted infections.

There was an interactive session between the facilitator and the young people to discuss and ask questions on decision making, goal setting and getting factual information from informed and trusted adults. They were further encouraged to seek help and factual information from people that are more knowledgeable than they are such as their teachers, school counsellors.

AHI youth centre activities and facilities were introduced to the students and were encouraged to utilize them. In addition, they were told to make contributions to the growing up newsletter and visit the AHI’s website and Facebook page. Newsletters were distributed to the young people and series of picture were taken.
