February 1-3, 2005, officials of the Enugu State Ministry
of Education and the Global Health and Research Foundation
(GHARF) paid a two-day visit to Lagos State to study
the approach adopted by the Lagos State Ministry of
Education in implementing the Family Life and HIV Education
(formerly Sexuality Education) Curriculum in its public
secondary schools.
The visit, which was facilitated by AHI, provided an
opportunity for the Enugu State team to interact with
key persons involved in the management of the curriculum
implementation process, as well as appraise the successes
and challenges being faced.
They met with Commissioner for Education, Professor
Olakunle Lawal, the permanent secretary, and other the
directors in the ministry.
The visitors also had interactive discussions with
the teachers using the curriculum in their classes,
students, principals, and parents, all with a view to
gain insight that will aid the successful replication
of the programme in Enugu State.
