On July 25, 2005 Action Health Incorporated played
host to the Africa staff and fellows of Ashoka, an international
non-profit organization that aims to develop social
entrepreneurship around the world through investing
in social entrepreneurs with innovative ideas for change
in their communities .
The visit to AHI was part of the orientation program
for Ashoka’s newly elected African fellows.
Nike Esiet, AHI’s Executive Director, and Ashoka
alum, was on hand to receive the new fellows.
The fellows toured AHI’s facility, interacted
with AHI staff, and met with some of the young people
being served by AHI. The fellows also met with the director
and staff of the Africa Regional Sexuality Resource
Centre, an AHI-project that aims to increase public
discourse of sexuality issues in Africa.
The Ashoka fellowship is a global association of leading
social entrepreneurs- where men and women who possess
the vision, creativity, and extra-ordinary determination
of the business entrepreneur- but who devote these qualities
to introducing new solutions to societal problems.
