| AHI on
July 11, 2006 formerly presented the Revised Schemes
of Work for Junior Secondary Schools on Integrated Science
and Social Studies (2005/2006-2007/2008) to the Lagos
State Ministry of Education (LSMOE).
The ceremony which took place at the Conference Hall
of the LSMOE, Alausa was witnessed by the Honourable
Commissioner for Education, Dr. Leke Pitan; the Directors
and other staff of the Ministry as well as some management
staff of AHI.
In his remark, the Secretary, Board of Trustees, AHI,
Dr. Uwem Esiet gave a brief on the journey so far in
the integration of the Family Life HIV/AIDS Education
(FLHE) into the Junior Secondary School (JSS) Curriculum;
a study visit of the LSMOE team to South Africa and
the training of over 1000 FLHE carrier subject teachers
in JSS. He commended Lagos State for being a model in
the implementation of FLHE in the country.
Replying, the Honourable Commissioner for Education,
Dr. Leke Pitan expressed joy at the tremendous effort
of AHI in revising and producing the schemes of work
for the teachers. According to him, “this is a
major step forward. I’m impressed and I must commend
AHI’s vision on this project”. He called
on other NGOs to emulate AHI’s concern and assistance
in the implementation of FLHE in the state. He reiterated
the state government’s resolve to conclude the
expansion of the Technical Colleges and the development
of the scheme of work by September 2006 as this would
help to prepare students from Basics 7, 8 and 9 to go
into Vocational Colleges. He further promised to produce
more copies of the Schemes of Work to enable teachers
and students have their individual copies.
Highpoint of the ceremony was the presentation of the
Revised Schemes of Work for JSS on Integrated Science
and Social Studies to the Commissioner by the Chair,
Board of Trustees, AHI, Dr. (Mrs.) O.A. Odiakosa.
