| On June
16, 2006, AHI joined the rest of the International Community
to mark “THE DAY OF THE AFRICAN CHILD”.
The event which had as its theme: ‘Caring For
The Young Future”, while the sub-theme, “Sexuality
Education, A Right For Every Young Person” took
place at the AHI Multi Purpose Hall. It aimed at calling
attention to the educational plight of children and
providing them with quality education.
The event provided participants the opportunity to
learn about sexuality education and the importance of
caring for the young future.
They also took part in the “Gele Parade”/
Competition which involved the art of tying of head
gears by African females. The participants learnt new
skills on how to tie various types of the headgear.
More than 72 students (20 males and 53 females) took
part in the event.
“The day of the African child” is commemorated
every year in memory of the sovereign children killed
in South Africa in 1976 during a march to protest the
inferior quality of education they were subjected to
by the apartheid regime in South Africa.
