Gombe State Joins Family Life and HIV/AIDS Education Train

The implementation of Family Life and HIV/AIDS Education in Gombe State was given a boost with the United Nations Population Funds (UNFPA) supported learning visit of the state Ministry of Education officials to the Lagos State Ministry of Education (LSMOE) and Action Health Incorporated (AHI) on February 1-2, 2007.

The team, led by the Gombe state UNFPA Programme Adviser, Mr. Dashe Dasogot included the Permanent Secretary, MOE, Gombe state, Mr. Hammadu Musa; the Coordinator, UNFPA (MOE), Mr. Mohammed Kiman; the Liaison Officer, Gombe State Office, Lagos, Mr. Abdu Jibir and Mr. M.G Abubakar.

The team later held discussions with AHI Representatives and officials of the Lagos State Ministry of Education (LSMOE); representatives of Secondary schools in the state and their students.

It was undertaken to assess the level of progress made by the LSMOE in the FLHE Curriculum implementation in public Junior Secondary Schools in the State and to interact with all key stakeholders (at policy, operational and NGO levels) involved in the implementation and management of FLHE Curriculum in the state.

The study tour also provided an opportunity for both parties to identify and explore future areas of collaboration amongst the different partners and stakeholders involved in FLHE programmes in Nigeria as well as develop an action plan that would guide the implementation of the project in Gombe State.
