| The implementation
of Family Life and HIV/AIDS Education in Gombe State
was given a boost with the United Nations Population
Funds (UNFPA) supported learning visit of the state
Ministry of Education officials to the Lagos State Ministry
of Education (LSMOE) and Action Health Incorporated
(AHI) on February 1-2, 2007.
The team, led by the Gombe state UNFPA Programme Adviser,
Mr. Dashe Dasogot included the Permanent Secretary,
MOE, Gombe state, Mr. Hammadu Musa; the Coordinator,
UNFPA (MOE), Mr. Mohammed Kiman; the Liaison Officer,
Gombe State Office, Lagos, Mr. Abdu Jibir and Mr. M.G
Abubakar.
The team later held discussions with AHI Representatives
and officials of the Lagos State Ministry of Education
(LSMOE); representatives of Secondary schools in the
state and their students.
It was undertaken to assess the level of progress made
by the LSMOE in the FLHE Curriculum implementation in
public Junior Secondary Schools in the State and to
interact with all key stakeholders (at policy, operational
and NGO levels) involved in the implementation and management
of FLHE Curriculum in the state.
The study tour also provided an opportunity for both
parties to identify and explore future areas of collaboration
amongst the different partners and stakeholders involved
in FLHE programmes in Nigeria as well as develop an
action plan that would guide the implementation of the
project in Gombe State.
