| Action Health Incorporated (AHI) on May 19, 2008 joined the International Community in commemorating the AIDS Candlelight Memorial by organizing a centre- based activity attended by over two hundred and twenty (220) students from Kosofe, Mainland and Shomolu Local Education Districts.
The purpose of the event was to honour all those affected by the AIDS pandemic, as well as to educate young people about HIV and AIDS prevention, care and support, positive living, stigmatization/discrimination and treatment. The global theme for the year's celebration "Never give up, Never forget", aimed at bringing into remembrance those who died of AIDS and stirring up stakeholders to continue the fight until a lasting solution that will provide complete cure and immunity is found.
The event also aimed at facilitating behavioural change through adequate knowledge of HIV/AIDS as well as assessing young people's understanding of what they have learnt over the years on HIV and AIDS and helping young people develop necessary skills to combat HIV and AIDS.
The Coordinator, 'Citadel of Hope', a support group of People Living with HIV and AIDS, who is also the Lagos State coordinator of APYIN (Association of Positive Youths in Nigeria, Lagos State Chapter), Miss Ajiboye Monisola, made a presentation on HIV/AIDS issues and shared her experiences as a positively living person. Issues of Stigmatization/Discrimination against PLWH/As, Care and Support for PLWH/As, Positive Living, and Treatment of HIV and AIDS were also addressed.
A quiz competition aimed at testing young people's knowledge on HIV and AIDS was incorporated in the programme.
Highlight of the event was the lighting of memorial candles in honour of the precious souls lost to AIDS.
