People in Nigeria
In Nigeria, the average age at first intercourse
for girls is just over 16 years and a little higher
for boys. Many times intercourse is unprotected
and with multiple partners. Every year, 1 out
of 20 adolescents become infected with a sexually
transmitted disease. This fact sheet details the
status of adolescent sexual and reproductive health
in Nigeria. It highlights the alarming state of
our adolescents’ health and the shows the
need to act without delay.
